The Guiomar Smeets Foundation
Our Mission
The family and friends of Guiomar Smeets have established the Guiomar Smeets Foundation in her honour. The foundation provides scholarships in Guiomar’s name that assist highly motivated, talented students, who intend to pursue undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees in the fields of music, English literature, business or law with the same passion for excellence Guiomar demonstrated. The foundation is funded by family, friends, and colleagues of Guiomar. The foundation will ensure that Guiomar’s memory and her legacy of excellence, in both her pursuit of learning and in her career, live on.

Receiving the Guiomar Smeets scholarship was a great privilege, yet more importantly afforded me flexibility & options in how I chose to pursue my college education. This flexibility is what enabled me to follow my curiosity, simultaneously pursue & receive two degrees while at Queen's University, and participate in exchanges to the UK & Sweden. Without the scholarship, it's difficult to conceive just how my college education - and achievements - would have been different.
